Gene Rayburn never had it so good. (Some of you will have to look him up on the Internet!) By the grace of God and generous hearts, we have a match, but friends, this is no game. A matching gift has been offered for retiring the mortgage on our new church.
The matching gift will be available only until the end of this year. With funds on hand, this means that we are down to less than four months to meet the match of $300,000 and completely retire the debt.
Whatever you give to the Building Fund between now and December 31, 2016 will be doubled. $10 becomes, in effect, $20. $100 becomes $200. You may be able to give $1000 or $2000 which instantly becomes $4000. Also, you might think beyond cash on hand. You might have property or investments or some other asset or some unexpected income which could instantly be doubled when given to the church.
Remember, it’s not equal giving, but equal sacrifice. That means that whatever the amount we can give, if each of us gives our best gift, the need will be met and God will be glorified.
Just think how great it would be to pay off the mortgage. Just think what we could do without the debt in front of us and hanging over us. Just think about the new ministries and programs and possibilities that could open up. Just think of the victory celebration we’re going to have. Just imagine how pleased God will be at the faithfulness of his people.
Can we do it? Yes and no. No, because we cannot do it on our own. Yes, because with God all things are possible (Matthew 19.26). The real question is, will we make the most of this awesome opportunity?
But WAIT! There’s MORE!
No, really. Another generous matching gift has been offered up to $50,000 from now to September 30. This means that any gift for debt retirement for the next two months will be matched, in addition to the original match. This means that for August and September, your $100 gift now becomes $300. A $20 gift now becomes $60. A $1000 gift becomes $3000. A gift you may have been considering later on will be tripled if you give it before the end of September (this month!).
