Mark and Rebecca Suter are a husband and wife pastoral team who have served Martinsville First UMC since November, 2000. They are both graduates of Asbury Theological Seminary and have pastored congregations in southern Indiana since 1982, and have served as co-pastors for over 25 years.
Mark and Rebecca were married in 1980 and have two daughters, Sarah and Emily, who are married and living in Florida and Mooresville.
Mark is originally from Port Royal, Kentucky, where his family was very active in a rural United Methodist church, and where he received God’s call to preach at age 15. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1979 with degrees in English and Spanish. He pastored his first church while in college and also served as a pastor while attending seminary at Asbury. His hobbies include reading and researching history, Christian apologetics, hiking, museums and sports.
Rebecca grew up in Scottsburg, Indiana and in the Scottsburg United Methodist Church. As a youth, she served on the capital funds team for a new church, and became a Christian during a Lay Witness Mission. Sensing God’s call to ministry, she served as a summer youth intern at churches in South Dakota and Georgia, and then entered Asbury Seminary. Her hobbies include spending time with her family, baking, reading, traveling to the beach, shopping and sports.
The Suters’ vision is to help people experience a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, to grow that relationship through personal discipleship and to put faith into action through serving Christ’s church while sharing Christ’s good news with those who have yet to find their way into the family of God.
